‘ I looked within the stone and had sight
o’er crystal offered to me. A cloud of brightness parted
and I glimpsed some ruin’ed place
Where all form of trade and traffic were decayed.
The light in the air above this place
Seemed somewhat dark
Like evening or twilight.
The ancient long buried and long forgotten
London was a wonderful city
Where many say the holiest temple of this country stood.
This buried city contained triumphant arches
High pillars, decayed walls, obelisks, theatres all broken and ruined.
A thousand fair buildings.
Everything lying ruined underground.
A dawn with innumerable lights.
Could we not move the spheres and reach out
To touch the fix’ed stars?’
